St-Pierre and Tolias labs receives an Innovation Award from NSF
The St-Pierre lab and the lab of co-PI Andreas Tolias have received an Innovation Award from the NSF as part of a program to advance a national research infrastructure for neuroscience (Next Generation Networks aka "NeuroNex"). The St-Pierre lab will be developing new genetically encoded voltage indicators for monitoring neural activity and the Tolias lab will be evaluating them in behaving rodents.
OVERVIEW
The St-Pierre lab is located in the Department of Neuroscience at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM), a premier health science university located in Houston, the fourth-most populous city in the USA and the largest city of the state of Texas. The Department of Neuroscience is currently (2018) ranked 5th in the USA for NIH funding. BCM is located in the Texas Medical Center, the largest medical complex in the world that also includes MD Anderson Cancer Center and the University of Texas Health Science Center. Many students of the St-Pierre lab are from nearby Rice University, a private university recognized for science and engineering. The St-Pierre lab can accept students from four graduate programs at Rice: (1) Electrical and Computer Engineering, (2) Systems, Synthetic, and Physical Biology, (3) Applied Physics, and (4) Bioengineering.
